He had started his journey in the music industry in the late 1990s when he had started working with local music producer IcyRoc Kraven. IcyRoc was working with another local rapper by the name of Tech N9ne at that time.This had led to a meeting between Krizz and Tech N9ne who had been working on a song titled Who You Came To See at that time. Krizz had offered to create a better hook for the song and Tech N9ne was quite impressed with his work. He then brought Krizz into his inner circle of musicians and producers which eventually led to him signing up with the newly-founded label Strange Music that was co-owned by Tech N9ne.Ever since, Kaliko started contributing to the albums put out by Tech N9ne and the label, either being featured as a rapper or providing background vocals for tracks on the album.He has been afflicted with an autoimmune form of vitiligo, a long-term skin condition characterized by smooth, white patches on various parts of the body that are caused by the loss of natural pigment. Many such patches are visible on his face. He had used the name of the disease as the title for his debut solo studio album that was published in 2008. He has also been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had named a track on his 2nd album (Genius (2009)) after the disorder.A number of his songs were used as music in the background of the various strip club scenes in the 2009 dark comedy film Big Fan.His 4th studio album, Kickin’ and Screamin’, which was released in May 2012, had become his highest-charting album on the Billboard 200.In October 2019, he had announced that he was planning to leave Strange Music. However, a few days later, he had changed his mind and had signed a new contract with the record label.
