Mitch Jones Releases Powerful If I Could Go Back

Former Top 10 Twitch streamer Mitch Jones introduces his debut EP If I Could Go Back, a six-track collection of heartfelt songs.

One of Twitch’s superstars, with more than half a million followers, after his best friend Byron Bernstein, aka Reckful, took his own life, Mitch slumped and stopped streaming on his Mitch Jones page.

Via YouTube, Mitch explained how Reckful’s passing affected him, as well as why he’s going in a different direction, “Truly I had some magical moments as a streamer, and those days are over. Every day that I continue just feels like me trying to relive something that I’ve already reached the peak of.”

He goes on to add, “I’ve been a full-time streamer for the past 10 years. I became a person that everyone who watched me wanted to see, and it slowly broke down my mental health over time. I lost some of the best people in my life, to death, or just having them leave me for all of my poor choices. In early 2021, Kala and I connected, and we started making music together and it has helped me more than any therapy could. I want to write songs to save people who are struggling, just like I’ve been. Thank you to all of the real ones from Twitch who have supported me in this journey into music. I hope the music can help at least one other person.”

Using music as therapy for his depression, Mitch released his song, “Now That You’re Gone,” gathering hundreds of thousands of views and backing from Twitch streamers XQC, Pokimane, Mizkif, and many others.

A refurbished version of “Now That You’re Gone” appears on the new EP, along with “Time Machine” and other tracks brimming with poignant nostalgia. Teaming up with producer Kurtis “Kala” Lloyd, Mitch delivers an EP rife with reflections on heartache, loss, and love.

Talking about how they hooked up, Kala shares, “I found Mitch through the internet, and when we got together the first day we wrote ‘Now that you’re gone’ – and the rest is history. Music has been my life for so long, and I’m so stoked to be part of this project. I hope our songs find you wherever you are, and help you find peace.”

The EP begins with “Time Machine,” opening on a dark strumming guitar flowing into a dazzling, potent rhythm topped by Mitch’s passionate melodic rapping flow. Surging with thick layers of misty energy, the song reveals profound emotions.

Highlights include “Happy Now,” traveling on rippling hefty alt-rock textures. A gleaming guitar imbues the tune with luminous accents as Mitch’s evocative tones spill out his thoughts and feelings. Low-slung and shimmering, “Perfect Vibe” relays the sensation of a real relationship. Sheens of viscous guitars give the tune touching significance.

The final track, “Now That You’re Gone” ripples with platinum-colored guitars riding a finessed rhythm as echoing vocals infuse the lyrics with the aching sorrow.

Full of the muscle of alt-rock and the punch of hip-hop, If I Could Go Back pushes out mesmerizing textures of moving music.
